September 2007

So a week has passed since I left the mountains. Around this time last week I was in Norton Kansas chugging along the highway those last few hours home.

Here is a picture of what was outside the window at the dorm I stayed at during my archives experience. Still missing the people and the fun.

I had kinda hit a wall at work on new idea generation. Luckily, I was also headed off to vacation.
This was when I was reminded of the best idea factory in the bibliosphere: other libraries. In particular, the Estes Park Public Library. Basically, all I had to do was walk around with my camera for an hour and I came away with some really neat things to bring up at my library.

So when life gets you down, and you boss or supervisor wants some new ideas, go take a vacation and visit some libraries with a notepad in your hand and a camera.

Plus, don’t be afraid to engage the librarians there in conversation about what you think is cool. Often people will be very willing to discuss things that worked, hurdles, and things they wish they had done differently.

So give it a shot.

Wouldn’t this be a cool sign for your library?

This is me at the top of trail ridge road.

Some elk.

An old man in the wild. Scary huh?!

So I am now in Estes Park. My laptop I was using broke last night, so I am at the Estes Park Public Library using their computers. Fun so far not feeling too groggy or sick.
